Pookie Baby

0 comments:

I realized the other day that I have blogged about Chasey, and I have blogged about Joey Tucker, but I have never written about my Spooky.

She was born in September 1999 and seconds after she was born she was hissing at everything. Everything spooked her - hence the name. She is also called Poo, Poo baby, and Mama kitty. When I went through a very difficult time in my life, Spooky was my constant companion. Whenever I was sad, she would find me in the house and sit next to me and purr. She has always been my sweet girl.

Since Aidynn was born she hasn't gotten as much attention as she used to, and she will generally hide during the day until I come home from work. I think she has found other outlets to keep her company....

This is a plush toy that I had given to my neice Dani to play with. After she left it was quickly "adopted" by Spook. She carries it in her mouth and moves it throughout the house. When she sets it somewhere it actually sits as it is pictured. A lot of the time I don't even notice it being moved, so when I do see it in a new place.... it's kinda creepy. But Spook loves it so I can't take it away.

When I took the picture above, she saw me near her teal striped zebra "baby" and came running.

Don't worry Spook. I won't take your baby.

OH KITTENS!!!

So what does our new kitten look like?"

These are words that came from Duane yesterday afternoon. Sweet and surprising. I guess I should back up a little bit to yesterday around 12:00 pm.

I had just clocked out for lunch and I am walking to the refrigerator when I hear our warehouse manager, Ricky, scream "HEY! What the F*** do you think you are doing!?" around the corner. When I turned the corner I see Ricky with his arm inside some guys white Acura trying to get him out of his car. The car is a 5 speed and it keeps stalling as he is trying to start it and his girlfriend is pressing on the gas pedal! I move forward a little bit more and look to see the license plate number, and then I ran back to the office to write it down. I come back around the corner just as Ricky gets his arm out and opens their back door. A white flurry runs into the warehouse and they speed off.

While asking if Ricky was ok and what the hell happened, out from behind the charging table walks this Calico/White kitten; completely filthy and obviously scared. She sat down right in front of me. She looked to be about 6 months old – if even that.

"Oh crap." These are the exact words that crossed my mind.

Apparently Rick was in the warehouse when this Man and Woman came up to the back of the warehouse and started stealing batteries! They were just throwing them into the back seat of their car – with a KITTEN back there.

I picked up said kitten and walked back to the office with my lunch in the other hand. While sharing a bologna sandwich with me she sat quietly in my lap; very sweet and very hungry.

I message Duane with, "I have a little problem."

I explained what had happened to him. The kitten couldn't stay at the office there was no kitty box or safe place for her to be. No one else would even look twice at her. I work with a lot of men, and the only 2 other women are allergic. *sigh*

"So what does our new kitten look like?"

So, I told my boss I would be a bit late from lunch and I took the kitten home to give her a bath and leave her with Duane where she would be safe. As soon as I walked through my door the phone rang. The woman from the vehicle was back at the office and asking for her cat back! She didn't bring back the stolen property and in fact claimed innocence in the entire ordeal. He told me to just stay home until he called me back.

Well with the condition that the kitten was in and the conditions it was living in – the overflowing litter box that Ricky said was in the back seat and apparently the people looked as if they were living in the car – I knew that I was NOT giving this kitten back to those people. She was covered in dried feces, dirt, and oil. She had hundreds of fleas. She was so malnourished that her ribs could easily be seen.

Oh HELL no. Unless my boss demanded that I do so, this kitten wasn't going back to those people.

She slept outside on our balcony last night so that the Advantage flea medication would have time to take effect. I played with her a bit and she still seems very sweet and loving. She purred this morning for me when I greeted her.

It's really too bad that we can't keep her. I already have 2 cats and if I don't find this little girl a home she will go to the shelter. After meeting the crack-head who had the audacity to show up again to try and retrieve her cat yesterday afternoon, sadly the kitten would be better off being put to sleep. Who knows what she will do to it.

Only drugs would compel a person who committed a felony theft to continue to come around and risk getting arrested to try and get back a kitten that was being abused.

I'm not keeping the kitten. I never had the intention to keep her really. The fact that Duane knows me well enough to know I couldn't abandon a helpless kitten and he supports me in decisions like that – even though he is the one that cleans the cat boxes and usually feeds and waters them – he cares that much about me. I don't know how he always knows exactly what to do, but he makes me fall in love with him over and over again every day.

I will post some pictures of her tonight. Hopefully someone will save her from the shelter, but it's a sad reality to face when I had to make the decision that she would be better off put to sleep than the environment she was in. As long as she behaves I will foster her as long as I can.

I can't name her though… as soon as she has a name I become attached.
