Teacher Gets An "Eff"

While working on a more solid (and dare I say: structured) homeschooling preschool lesson plan, I got to thinking about all of the ways that Hubs and I have already succeeded in putting our girls ahead of the curve.

Little examples would be that Kindle at 15 months has a vocabulary of over 100 words, and she also knows some of her colors. She uses the words "please" and "thank you" every time just like her sister. Aidynn, at 30 months knows how to count to twenty, says her entire alphabet, knows all the words to "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star", knows all of her shapes including the words "octagon" and "dodecahedron", she has the most advanced imagination I have ever seen in a kiddo so young, and she can recite to you all of her colors as well. And there is so much more...

All of this reminded me that most recently, however, it seems I have been inadvertently teaching her how to use colorful adjectives. Well, only one in particular (and for posterity's sake I will use the more PC blogger version of the word) - "Effin'"

Everything from "Effin' Cat" when he is in her way, to dropping something and responding with a very clear "Eff" word. Apparently, I haven't held my tongue as well as I should or as well as I thought I was! I never thought I would have to say these words to my 2 year old:

"Aidy, honey, little girls don't say "Eff". That's a big people word, and it's not nice. Mommy won't say it anymore either, but Aidy doesn't say "Eff". Okay?"

She seems to have gotten the point pretty quickly as it only happened for a few days before this talk, and I didn't hear her say it for over a week. That is until she stubbed her toe. It was then, that right in front of both Hubs and I that she jumped, grabbed her little foot, and yelled "Eff!".

I had to turn my head so she couldn't see me fighting back the laughter. Hubs disappeared into the kitchen.

We let it slide that time, because neither of us could talk to her seriously, but I think it's ok because it hasn't happened again.

Hey, at least she used it sparingly and in the proper context.

When Courtney was two (she had her 27th birthday recently), Susie was bringing her home from grocery shopping. Trying to get out of the parking lot at the Raley's at Madison and Hazel, she kept being frustrated by the parking lot and other drivers. Exasperated, Susie let out an "Oh Crap!"

And on cue, from the car seat in the back, was this high pitched little voice, repeating "Oh kwap! Oh kwap!" All the way home...

Sometimes kids are our teachers.

HAHA! So then I'd imagine you can relate.

Although I think I would rather she be saying "Oh crap" I think... ^_~
