It's Tuesday.
I love Tuesdays.
Tuesdays are MY days. I drop my baby Aidy off with Janice, and I drive right past my workplace. I go to my Obstetrician appointment, stop by Starbucks for a (usually decaffeinated) iced caramel macchiato, drop off my laundry with Trevor (who reminds me of my husband at 17), and every other Tuesday I go have my nails done.... usually adding on a last minute pedicure just for the foot massage and paraffin dip from Tony. Divine!
Today Tony is on vacation so I have an appointment with Wendy. At 36 1/2 weeks pregnant I can't skip a fill, if I go into labor soon who knows when my next appointment will be!?
Waddling into the salon I drop my purse beside me, greet Wendy as I hand her my credit card, and sit in my chair. There is an elderly woman in the nail station next to me and I smile at her. She is escorted by an East Indian woman in a Sari. I smile at her as well and she asks me how far along I am. She has a beautiful voice - almost melodic. It reminds me of how my mother spoke to me when I was very young; soft, but strong.
"Is this your first child?" she asks.
"My second, a baby girl - like the first" I smile.
"I have all boys - 7 of them. I never did get my girl."
"Ohh, I am so sorry to hear that. I hear boys are easier to raise, so perhaps that was a blessing for you."
"It might have been." She chuckled. "Are you going to have another, to try for a boy?"
"Mmmm... maybe. My husband and I are thinking about it. We are happy with our girls. I thought I wanted a boy with this one, but I am happy that she is a girl. She and her sister will be very close in age. Besides, there's no guarantee the next would be a boy.... and wouldn't that be fun to have 3 teenage daughters all at once." I can't help but laugh at the idea and she and her friend join in my amusement.
We talk for a while about her children and mine; the weather and the wind.
As she gets up to escort her friend from the salon I wish her a happy day and thank her for the conversation.
She walks toward me, leans over, and hugs me. She says simply ~
"Try again. The next one will be a boy."
She smiles, waves, and leaves.
*****
First off, I have to tell you, I have major issues with personal space. If I don't know someone, there is about a 2-5 foot parameter (depending on how you smell) that must be maintained at all times.
I don't like to be touched by strangers. I didn't even know this woman's name! I had simply spoken with her for approximately 20 minutes of my life.
I was amazed at the comfort level I seemed to have with her almost immediately. Her simple gesture of affection and caring for another person that she barely knew, truly touched my heart.
When she approached me, I knew she was going to invade that comfort zone, and not for one second did the OCD alarms go off in my head. I welcomed her love and acceptance. It was as if the chaos and noise and constant commotion of life in my head just stopped. Everything in my heart became calm and peaceful.
How I felt when she spoke to me afterward..... I'm not a huge believer in psychic abilities or what-can't-be-seens...but..... I just know she was right.
If my husband and I decide to have another child, the next one will be a boy.
We'll see....
