My milk came in about 2 days ago. I didn't know that it had because everyone told me how much it was going to hurt and how uncomfortable it was. I didn't even notice it had happened. I was whining to Duane that I had thought she wasn't getting enough to eat - and that I didn't even think there was colostum left. As I grabbed my breast and squeezed - "See?" - *squirt in Duane's general direction*.
*GASP!* "WHOO! MILK!" *laughs*

However exciting being a life-sustaining machine is (and it is! also exciting is the appearance of huge firm breasts... it's like I got a boob job lol) my daughter is such a good baby that she doesn't wake up to eat. I have to wake her up. She really likes sleep. Sometimes it takes me a good 1/2 hour to get her conscious enough to recognize there's a boob in her face and what she is supposed to do with it. Duane thinks I should let her sleep until she wakes up to let her rest since she is a newborn - I had to explain to him that she won't wake up to eat. She is a very convenient baby, and not at all demanding.
The hospital did give her a pacifier though. Which now I am a bit disgruntled over. I didn't know that giving a newborn a pacifier inhibits their response to nursing because the nipple isn't as large as the pacifier they have been using. Some hospitals actually have "No Pacifier" policies. This caused us some minor problems, but now we took it away and if we can get away with it, we won't be giving it back.
She should be having at least one bowel movement a day.... the last messy diaper we had was Wednesday morning around 10 am and it was meconium. She has yet to pass a "real" poop. After some reading we figured out it was because she wasn't eating enough. She refused to! (Damn that binky!)
I finally took matters into my own hands last night and wouldn't take no for an answer. She nursed every 3 hours and if she refused to, we kept at it until she gave in. It wasn't too bad actually... I just had to be very patient with her and let her do things in her time. Which usually was fairly quickly as long as she was awake. Keeping her awake.... that was the hard part.
This morning we woke up to eat and still no luck. I called the doctor and he told me to go get suppositories from the pharmacy and insert half of one rectally. Poor baby!
A few minutes after I hung up there was a smell in the air..... I thought she was just gassy, but checked her diaper anyways.
"YAY, POOPIE!! Daddy come look!"
*laughs* I've never been so excited about a bowel movement.
30 minutes later there was another poopie diaper.
I think she's playing catch up.
I hope she slows it down...
